Basic Information Regarding Trimble Reality Capture / Point Clouds in Trimble Connect for Web

Trimble Reality Capture

• A platform used for viewing and working with point clouds in the web version of Trimble Connect.
• Without it, point clouds cannot be viewed in the Trimble Connect web version, but they can be viewed in the desktop application without it.
• Opens all point cloud formats as in the desktop TC application (POTREE, LAS (.las), LAZ (.laz), E57 (.e57), URL (.url), TDX (.tdx), TZF (.tzf), XYZ (.xyz)).
• The capacity of this service limits only the viewing of point clouds, not their uploading to Trimble Connect. For example, you may have 20 GB of point clouds uploaded to a project, but only 2 GB prepared for viewing.

Full Version

• 1 TB capacity for viewing point clouds, shared across projects under your license. Option to increase to 2 TB, 3 TB, etc.
• 1 TB = Approximately 100 billion points = 500 scans
• Full functionality.
• Requires a Trimble Connect corporate, project license, or SiteVision Core.

Trial Version

• 10 GB capacity for viewing point clouds, shared across the entire Trimble Connect account.
• Full functionality.
• Usage period: 1 year from activation.
• Requires at least a Trimble Connect Business license or higher.

Activation

1. The project administrator must enable this extension in the project settings and also in the 3D viewer settings. (see procedure below) This must be done for each project where you want to use it.
2. After activation, permission windows must be confirmed if they automatically pop up for the user (If denied, a reset of authorization for the extension is required).
3. Then an email is sent to the license account owner. This email contains a link to the license manager. In this manager, you can complete the activation of the trial license or purchased license.

Uploading Point Clouds

Point clouds are uploaded by selecting the file in TC and then clicking the 'View' button. Then the upload to the extension starts (Depending on size, it takes several minutes, possibly even tens of minutes. It runs in the background, so you can do anything else in the meantime.) After uploading, files open as quickly as models. After uploading to the extension, these point clouds can also be opened normally in the project viewer from the project folder. They can also be loaded directly with models or drawings as a composite model.
